The Chaumukha Adinath temple at Ranakpur is famous for its 1,444 carved marble pillars — no two alike. It was built from about 1437 by the Jain merchant Dharna Shah with the support of Rana Kumbha, after whom Ranakpur is named.
Distance and route from Udaipur
Ranakpur is about 93–100 km from Udaipur (the temple’s own site says about 93 km) — 2 to 2½ hours. The usual road goes via Gogunda (≈40 km on NH-27) and Saira.
Timings for visitors
The morning is reserved for worship. Non-Jain tourists are allowed from 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM (some operators say foreigners until 4 PM). Plan to arrive around midday.
Dress code and rules
- Shorts, skirts and sleeveless tops are not allowed — cover legs and shoulders.
- No leather items (belts, wallets, bags); shoes off.
- Photography is allowed in the complex with a camera ticket, but not of the main idol. Fees for cameras/phones vary.
- Entry is free for Indians; foreigners have reported a ticket of about ₹200.
How to reach Ranakpur
- By car / taxi: most convenient, often combined with Kumbhalgarh.
- By bus: buses run from Udaipur; check timings at the bus stand.
- By train: Falna station is about 35 km away.
