Chittorgarh was the capital of Mewar and is the largest fort in India, spread over about 700 acres on a 180 m hill. Its three great sieges — 1303, 1535 and 1568 — and the Vijay Stambh built by Rana Kumbha make it the most important history day trip from Udaipur. It is part of the UNESCO “Hill Forts of Rajasthan”.
Distance and route from Udaipur
Chittorgarh is about 112–115 km from Udaipur (Rajasthan Tourism: 115 km) — 2 to 2½ hours on the Udaipur–Chittorgarh highway via Debari, Dabok and Mangalwad. On the way you pass the turn for Sanwariya Seth temple, Mandphiya, about 40 km before Chittorgarh — many visitors cover both in one day.
Timings and tickets
- Fort: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, last entry around 5:30 PM. Ticket ₹40 for Indian/SAARC/BIMSTEC visitors and ₹600 for foreigners; under 15 free (ASI).
- Fateh Prakash Palace Museum: 9:45 AM – 4:45 PM; ₹20 (Indian adult), ₹100 (foreign adult).
- Light & sound show: after sunset, in Hindi and English (phone 01472-241238 to confirm).

How to reach Chittorgarh
- By car / taxi: the easiest way to see the 13 km fort road; hire an auto inside if you come by train or bus.
- By bus: regular RSRTC buses from Udaipur.
- By train: Chittaurgarh Junction is in the town below the fort, with trains from Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur and Delhi.

Best time to visit
October to March. Start early from Udaipur to see the fort before the afternoon heat, and add Sanwariya Seth on the way back.
