Eklingji is the 108-temple Shiva complex at Kailashpuri, the family shrine of the Maharanas of Mewar, who ruled as the “Diwan” of Eklingji. It is the easiest temple day trip from Udaipur — about 22 km up the Nathdwara road — and is usually combined with Nagda’s Sas-Bahu temples and Shrinathji at Nathdwara.
Distance and route from Udaipur
Eklingji (Kailashpuri) is about 22 km north of Udaipur — sources give 21–25 km — and the drive takes 35–45 minutes. Take the Udaipur–Nathdwara highway (NH-48, the old NH-8); Eklingji is the first big stop on this road, about 27 km before Nathdwara.
Eklingji darshan timings
Darshan happens in three sessions and the temple closes in between:
- Morning: about 4:30 – 7:00 AM
- Late morning: about 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Evening: about 5:00 – 7:30 PM
On Mondays and festivals such as Mahashivratri the temple opens a little earlier and closes later, and crowds are much bigger. Timings vary slightly by season, so plan around the session rather than the exact minute.
Rules: mobile phones, dress code and leather
Phones and cameras are not allowed inside and are deposited at a counter near the entrance. Leather items should be left outside. Since December 2024 the temple has been reported to stop visitors wearing mini-skirts, bermuda shorts or nightwear — wear modest, traditional clothing. There is no entry ticket.
How to reach Eklingji
- By car / taxi: the easiest option; most visitors combine it with Nagda and Nathdwara in half a day.
- By bus: RSRTC and private buses on the Udaipur–Nathdwara road stop at Kailashpuri.
- By train: the nearest station is Udaipur City (≈22–25 km).

History of Eklingji
According to the 15th-century Ekalinga Mahatmya, the temple was founded by Bappa Rawal in the 8th century.
